Vegan Home Cleaning Products

Vegan Home Cleaning Products that Work!

So you’ve made the vegan change and are using almond milk in your morning coffee, and are slowly getting into tofu and tempeh. But as you know, going vegan is more encompassing than just that. Suddenly you’re looking through your cleaning cupboard and realise that you need to make some changes there, too! So here we are – what products can we trust not to participate in animal abuse? And does ‘cruelty-free’ really mean cruelty-free?

Just like with cosmetics, it can sometimes be difficult and outright frustrating to gain clarity on whether a household cleaning brand is actually vegan and/or cruelty-free.

A product claiming to have “never been tested on animals” may claim so legally but what it could pertain to is that the finished product has not, while individual ingredients may have been tested on animals or the company could sell in countries, where animal testing is required to compete in the local market.

But fret not as there are entire lines of cleaning products that are 100% vegan and cruelty-free, keeping your home nice and clean with a clean conscience.

Vegan Home Cleaning Product Lines

In order to free you from that anxiety in the supermarket aisles, we've compiled a list of cleaning product lines to do your daily household chores.

1. Allen’s Naturally

When you talk about vegan-friendly cleaning products, one cannot leave out the entire Allen’s Naturally line.  The brand has been around since 1979 and is basically the original cruelty-free cleaner. The company shines with their commitment to developing safe, gentle cleaners for household and laundry needs.

2. Dr. Bronner’s

If cleaning your home is more of a chore than a joy and you don’t want to think too much about getting a cabinet full of cleaning products, the go-to-cleaner for all sorts of purposes would be Dr. Bronner’s Sal Suds All Purpose Cleaner

A biodegradable cleaner, Sal Suds is made from pure essential oils, so it has a powerful clean, but is mild and gentle on skin, and safe to use in areas where pets and kids play.

As per instruction, simply dissolve one and a half teaspoons in a gallon of water, which means that a single 32-ounce jug of this cleaner will last you a long time. It’ll be light on your conscience and your wallet.

3. Sun and Earth

Sun and Earth cleaning products boast an impressive line of products and labels. These affordable products made from natural ingredients are Vegan! Kosher! Cruelty free! Phosphate free! Dye free! Free of dyes, perfumes, synthetics, and UV brighteners! For anyone with allergies or sensitivities to chemicals in traditional cleaning products, these are a real alternative worth considering.

4. Mrs. Meyers

Mrs. Meyers is often known for their refreshing hand soaps but it would be a disservice to the brand if we weren’t looking at the whole line of all-purpose household cleaner, dish detergent, laundry supplies, and bathroom cleaners. Like Method products, Mrs. Meyers is a certified cruelty-free company, and does not test its products or ingredients on animals, nor are any products made with animal-derived ingredients.

5. Citra-Solv

PETA itself has touted the accomplishments of this brand as an “excellent alternative to traditional cleaning products.” Citra Solv is another brand that offers a fully cruelty-free line of household cleaning products. Each product is derived from the oil found in orange peels, which leaves your home clean and smelling fresh while being good to animals.

Homemade Solutions

Being able to purchase natural, cruelty-free and vegan cleaning products is convenient, but not everyone may have access to these products or would prefer to create their own alternative.

Enter nature’s most potent and efficient cleaner - white vinegar! Combined with like tea-tree or eucalyptus oils, the strength of white vinegar, everyday baking soda, and the beautiful scent and anti-microbial properties of these oils make an unbeatable cleaning combo that is also entirely cruelty-free.

Whatever route you decide to take - whether you choose a particular line of natural, cruelty-free products, or you make your own at home, it’s easy to clean without animal cruelty.
